The most interesting grocery store we have found on the island of Guam is American Grocery, located in the village of Dededo, north a ways of the Mircronesian Mall.
William followed us around taking photos one day of just a few of the interesting foods you might be able to find in this multi-ethinic store.
So just how American is American Grocery? You decide.
This isle isn't too bad.
Tofu. That's pretty normal, at least for our family, but I spent a lot of time in Thailand, so it might not be normal for the normal American.
Spam is a popular "food?" here.
But now were going toward the unusual. Banana Ketchup anyone?
Palawan Honey. Straight from Palawan Island, Philippines.
Coconut jam. We forgot to get a jar of this to try.
A whole isle of canned fish.
Orange colored marshmellows, made with Philppine mangoes.
What do you do with sweet coconut gel?
I am sure there is a good use for dried lotus leaves.
But what is this? I can't remember, and I can't read Chinese. There's plenty in the store, and more, if you need some.
That is funny, I was just in a new "Far East Market" that I discovered, right on my beaten path, just yesterday. So I stopped to check it out, and many of the things you showed here were in that store. I was wondering about the Lotus leaves too - - had not seen that in any of the Asian stores that I have been known to frequent over the years, since we returned from Thailand!
