We have been privilaged to live in this big, lovely house since we arrived on Guam, but it is only a temporary situation. There is a new couple who will be working long term at AWR, coming soon to live in this house. We will be moving to a new place this week. Before we move, I want to give you a tour of the big yard I have been enjoying every day while I am here.
In the front yard, is a plumaria orchard, boasting twelve trees of the white and yellow variety. It is interesting to note that these plumarias bloom on trees almost bare of leaves. There is a sweet heavenly perfume wafting out from these trees.
The driveway is lined with ruffly red hibiscus bushes.
Only a panorama shot will show you all that is growing in the big back yard. From right to left you can see tangerine trees, papaya, hibiscus, a giant mango tree, two avocado trees (not in season), calamansi trees, a soursap tree, banana trees, and the coconut trees.
Here is a little closer view of the jungle like edges of the yard.
There are bunches of bananas that the next people will be able to enjoy.
Calamansis are little citrus that grow on bushy trees in several places around the yard. They are sour with a bit of sweetness. They are tiny, so it takes a lot of juicing to make some salad dressing, but I really enjoy the flavor. Here is a link to more about these cute little fruits.
The papaya are also small, but I am enjoying them. We are getting a few every week.
I first tasted soursap back when I was a teacher on Pohnpei in 1988. But this is my first time to watch it growing and then be able to eat it. We tasted our first one off this tree last week. But it looks like there is another one ready to pick for this week.
Rob's favorite fruit in the back yard is a citrus called a tangerine. They are the size of a medium to large mandarin orange. They aren't as sweet, and have plenty of seeds, but taste nice cold.
