On the 4th weekend of February, there are 5 this year because it is a leap year, a group of friends went and hiked the southern mountain trail of Guam. The trail starts at the Mount Lam Lam trail, goes up to the crosses and then south across the southern mountains, coming out at TransWorld Radio, in Merizo, Guam. Rob and I were interested, but we didn't have equipment for an overnight trip. And I didn't want to walk through miles of sword grass. So we volunteered to drive the drop off and pick up van.
LamLam means "lightening" in Chamorro. There are some that say that LamLam is the tallest mountain world because it does down into the Marianas Trench. I've wondered about that, since there is only 1332 feet that stretches up above sea level. It is the highest mountain on Guam. I decided to research it a bit and found a page that pretty much debunks the myth about LamLam. You can read it if your are curious about the debate.

We hiked with the group up to the crosses, an important site for worshipers on Easter Sunday. Everyone had a little rest there and something to drink. We enjoyed talking with the group, knowing we were heading back to a comfortable bed.
These two nice young people are from Japan and studying at Guam University. Jun is studying Marine Biology. Yokida is studying to teach English as a Second Language.
Alyssa and Amy are my friends and they just came up for the hike too.
They were going to hike from this point, and down along the tops of the ridges to the south, on the peaks to the left of the photo.
From this point the group had another hour to go, and we left them when the sun was getting low in the sky. They were going to camp on owe of the high places where the views are good, and the wind keeps away the mosquitoes.
When we picked them up the next afternoon, I learned that the wind did keep away the mosquitoes but it also rattled their tents pretty stiffly and kept some of them awake.
When I see the Bamboo Orchids, usually there is only one in bloom on a stem at a time, but this evening I found a set of twins.
This Gulf Wing Butterfly has had a hard life. Its wings are pretty beat up, but still beautiful.
The sun was going down quickly. So we stopped to watch it and enjoy the beginning of Sabbath.
It was the perfect time to talk with God and give thanks for all he has done for us.
It was the perfect time to remember he is in control and we can trust him to continue to take care of our lives.
