I've wondered before why Jesus would put a crown on our heads when we get to heaven. I don't wear jewelry here, or showy stuff. It seems uncomfortable and heavy to me. I've never wanted to be a showy queen or princess. If Jesus wanted to give it to me, I've been willing to accept it, but I've never wanted a crown myself.
This morning when I was praying and contemplating the death of Christ and what it means to me, I had a new thought about crowns. At the cross, Jesus took our sins upon himself, and died because of them. It was my sins that killed him. At the cross He gave me His life. I accept His gift. I am not worthy of that gift. He did not give it to me because I have done great things, or even because I have done some good things. He gave me His life, because of His great love, and because of my great need. Without it, I would perish. And that would break His heart, because He loves me. At the cross we are given the life of the Son of the living, eternal God. I stand in awe of that amazing thought.
When we, who accept the gift of the Savior are taken to heaven, we will be given the crowns that Christ deserves, as the Son of GOD. "Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 4:1,2. That is why we will humbly take those crowns off our heads and cast them at the feet of Jesus. We don't deserve them. He does! But they are ours, because of the amazing love of God, shown in the life of Jesus.
And the robe of righteousness that all the redeemed will wear? It is the robe that belongs to Christ also. What a precious, yet humbling, experience to wear what Christ deserves. All the glory belongs to Him! Praise Him our blessed Redeemer!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.
When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing.
To God and to the Lamb Who is the great “I Am”;
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on.
